Western US Set for Strong Spring Ski Season

BoarderGuy Mar 26, 2008

Because of some record snowfall in the Western US, some resorts have begun pushing back their closing dates. This is good news for those of us who haven't had enough time to hit the slopes this season.

Check out this article to hear more about the later dates.

Happy skiing and boarding!

Lift Ticket Kiosks Cut Wait Time

BoarderGuy Mar 12, 2008

Since we live in a world surrounded by technology, why shouldn't the ski and snowboard world be affected? For my last ski trip in Colorado, I had the chance to buy my lift tickets via an electronic kiosk, which is apparently the wave of the future in ski lift ticket sales.

Although I did have some minor complaints about the system, which was not the easiest to navigate, on the whole it was a really cool experience, and the best part was that it cut my wait time down to practically nothing. As quickly as you can hit the button for the resort, select the number of tickets, and insert your credit card to pay is as quick as you get your lift tickets.

According to this article from CNN Money, we should expect to see more of these kiosks in the future, and they may even one day replace the ticket booths at some of the larger resorts.

What do you think about the change? Is it welcome, or would you prefer the longer wait to keep the personal service intact?

Share your thoughts, and enjoy!

Lost New England Ski Resorts Live On

BoarderGuy Mar 10, 2008

For veteran skiers and boarders, you may remember some resorts that, for one reason or another, no longer exist. Maybe it's where you first learned to ski, or maybe it's where you and your family would go for ski holidays together? Over the years, resort come and go, but do we remember them?

For one man, Jeremy Davis, researching these extinct resorts began as a fascination... which turned into a 10 year project of finding all the New England resorts that no longer exist. Davis's project, called NELSAP, or New England Lost Ski Areas Project, has documented over 170 lost ski areas in Massachusetts alone.

Check out this short article from the Boston Herald about lost ski areas, and then leave a comment telling me what you think. Do you know of any lost resorts, anywhere in the world, that you'd like to talk about? Maybe Jeremy Davis's project will inspire you to catalog the lost ski areas in your corner of the world...

I hope you enjoy the article. Feel free to share any comments!
